"The Professional Mediators' Association is an independent charitable organisation which exists to promote excellence in
all aspects of civil, business, workplace and employment mediation."
Why do mediators need a professional association?
In a growing yet unregulated industry, TCM is seeing numerous individuals setting up their mediation and ADR companies. With a few thousand pounds and a handful of IT skills the UK is seeing an explosion of mediators, all claiming to have extensive experience and being 'the best thing since sliced bread.'Some of these mediators are more than likely excellent at what they do and TCM is keen to support them. However, as with any industry there will be cowboys (or girls) in it to make a 'fast buck'. TCM does not wish to support these people as they will undermine the hard work that we have done to promote the highest standards in mediation and ADR practice.

The Professional Mediators' Association is a genuine attempt (the first of its kind in the UK!) to develop a quality assurance framework and mediator registration scheme that benefits mediators, customers and most importantly parties in dispute. It is not a closed shop and we have deliberately opened the PMA to all certified mediators. However, TCM will only use FULL MEMBERS of the PMA on its panel of mediators. FULL MEMBERS must provide evidence of accreditation by TCM and evidence of their ongoing professional development.
Wendy Tull MCIPD Is the Head of the PMA and her role is to develop the professional mediator accreditation scheme and run the programme of events. Meet Wendy and the rest of the TCM by clicking here.
The benefits of membership

- A network of professional mediators and dispute resolution practitioners, with the PMA acting as a hub.
- Clearly developed practice standards and an exacting competency framework which secures each members credibility.
- An online forum and repository of resources and materials for mediators through the new PMA website.
- Access to high quality mediator development days and expert seminars though the UK Mediation Academy.
- TCM will draw its panel of mediators from Full PMA members only.
